The broadway version of Millie Dilmount. Because I attended a SIM performance of it, loved it, and it's cheaper than Elphie. Plus I got CNY moneys. So...

Note: Skirt is Knee length. Skirt portion is flowy-drapy, like a circle skirt, but the dress is "seamless", aka, skirt and torso portion is not seperate, and no seams joining. Invisible zipper down the back for entry.
Sorry for the craptastic quality of pics. I cropped them off from youtube. The ref pics of this costume is extremely hard to find for some reason.

I know the fabric has this certain sheen to it. But it really doesn't look like the OMG satin Shineys type of shine. That's just overkill in pictures. Any other fabric suggestions?

What we usually do to get over that is to line a layer of chiffon over the satin to diffuse the shine. What do you think?

I went and did a little bit of research, and the chiffon sort of...takes out the shine. A lot. Not to mention hamper the "swayability" of the dress. And I don't like the look of the overlay simply because it's obvious that there are two pieces of fabric. If we tack it down together with the bottom seam, I'm worried about puckering issues.(unnecessary folds in overlay fabric while there's none in the underlaying fabric) But that being said.. tulle overlay lets a bit more shine through(but still, with the overlay problems... But I think I've found what the costume is actually made of. Royal Purple Silk. I'm going to die for this right? Cost wise, at least.

It's not thaaaat bad. Say... $90. Which is around the same price as getting a silk dress off the rack, except this one is tailored.

Oh, then that's okay then (See, I toldja it would be cheaper than elphie's slanted seams horror right?)

And an idea for the skirt part. Maybe the fabric can be cut like this...(length not proportionate!) Sorry for crappy mouse-paint image
[Thoroughly Modern Millie][Millie Dilmount][Forget About the Boy] Milliedressconcept

So that the skirt can have a full sort of look, without the dress having seams? Any thoughts on this? or a way to do it better?

I'll leave it to the tailor to decide, but I'd let him know that you don't want any visible seams joining the top and bottom part.

I think it's neigh impossible to create an invisible join between two pieces of fabric. Hems, yes, but not an invisible seam!

Which reminds me, I want an invisible hem at the bottom of the skirt(because I can't see a hem, so I'm going to assume), if possible. It can be done using a blind hem stitch.. though I'm not sure whether your tailor has a sewing machine with the foot for that.

Would there be any lining for the dress? I imagine it wouldn't need one(neither do I want one) wait, scratch that, it has a lining. A whitish-pink coloured one that starts 1 1/2 inch up on the inside. (Upon scrutinising youtube video. My eyes hurt ><)

Hokay. I'll probably send you a new set of measurements too. I can't fit into my previous cosplay pants anymore.. I think it's high time for an update regarding...my bodily size. Curse all the additional canoeing muscles that ended up in flab after I quit the team.

I'm not planning to order within the current batch...so, I got a good bit of time.

UPDATE: Found a new clip on youtube of the Japanese broadcast of said clip. And...There's a seam. But as seen on musicals, costumes are never easy to make, so this is a super slanted seam usually used in dance costumes to allow for more frontal leg movement. I should probably re-take all the reference pictures, because the picture quality is SO much clearer, but the annoying Japanese subtitles get in the way. And they can't be switched off ><

[Thoroughly Modern Millie][Millie Dilmount][Forget About the Boy] Tmm13

d'ya think this will make things easier, or more difficult for the tailor?
